AME Zion Church of Kingston Navigates the Post-Quarantine

Well, Here we are--on the cusp of another Season! We're going to switch it up and provide some updates (and a few hints of things to come).

The Autumn Season Begins...

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Psalm 1:3 KJV

Transitioning into Fall from a (at times) busy Summer; We are happy to report some important developments:

(1) Our Bishop, Presiding Elder and our pastor—Rev. Mary Shelley-Bruce—were all reappointed! Reverend Bruce will have served her fifth, consecutive year at AME Zion Church of Kingston! We thank her for her service and guidance.

(2) Our Official Re-opening (for in-person, capacity services) was approved (we still hold dual virtual worship services to accommodate those who are not able to attend regular in-person)

(3) The church hosted a Summer “Community of Churches” Revival, which was organized by the amazing Rev. Gayle Johnson of New Central Baptist Church. It was a beautiful outdoor Revival of the sort we used to have in Kingston--and the first gathering of its size since the pandemic began two years. (Everyone was responsible, safe, and had a wonderful time).

(4) We also held our first in-person, socially distanced W.H.O.M.S. Women's Fellowship Meeting, The Rev. Joyce Washington-Jordan of the Holy Ground Church of Deliverance came to share a good word (all the way from North Carolina)! Later we celebrated the 10th Anniversary for Rev. Doris Schuyler, Pastor of Riverview Missionary Baptist Church.

THINGS-TO-COME...

We're looking to create programs that (a) bring more 'folks back into the fold--faith-based community outreach--and (b) bolster the entire faith community which will ensure positive growth for generations to come. During this journey, we will no doubt experience hardships and difficulties, but it work that needs to be done,

So, in this season of change, where the beauty and bounty of the earth springs forth i. The North Wind ushers in the Autumn, we hope you will join us. As people of faith, and specifically, Christians must help all we can. It's God's mandate. We are the church.

Stay tuned...
